No Help For Pubs From Our MPs Then

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The other day in the House of Commons their was a vote on the budget to increase alcohol duty which went through with 296 voting in favour of this shameful betrayal and 232 voting the right way.

Yet the very same MPs who voted for this are the same MPs who enjoy a subsidised bar in the Houses of Parliament, is this right?

Axe The Beer Tax

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

This site is supporting the Axe the Beer Tax campaign and will display a link to the campaign under the Beer Links section on the right hand side menu.

One fact I learnt from the campaign site is that the Chancellor of the Exchequer takes about a third of the price of a pint of beer in tax and that is wrong.

No cheers for the pubs then Darling?

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

In his Pre-Budget Statement yesterday Alistair Darling temporary lowered the VAT rate by 2.5% but offset by raising the duty on alcohol to cover it.

This despite pubs which are an important part of England’s heritage closing at a record levels, would of welcomed lower prices that they could charge their customers.

Mind you I don’t think he cares with his subsidized bar in the Houses of Parliament.
